Looking at the Top Players across the Globe in different stat categories, and looking at Champion picks as well. By Tom Searfoss

If you haven’t seen the Top N Players Tableau dashboard that I tweeted out a little while ago, it’s a handy tool that auto-updates daily that you can use to look at the Top Players across a ton of stat categories! As of writing this article, the database has been last refreshed at July 18th at 1:25AM PT.

If the visual doesn’t load, check it out on my Tableau Public Profile

You can adjust the number of games played and the number of rankings you want to look at in addition to the Regions you wish to compare. Using this visual, we’ll be taking a look weekly at how players stack up across the globe using a few key filters: Top 25 Players with at least 4 games played. Since most Regions have teams playing at least 2 games per week, this filter catches all players that have at least 2 weeks of pro play under their belts.

Without further ado, let’s get Stats-y!

Comparing Major Regions Only

A Major Region is defined by their having 2+ seeds at Worlds. So for this exercise, the LPL, LCK, LEC, LCS, PCS & VCS are Major Regions.

Top KDA (All Roles)

Lots of new faces appear in the KDA rankings this time around as the PCS and VCS are now underway with at least 4+ games for it’s players being counted. The LEC also has some different faces climbing the ladder as MAD Lions (MAD) Support Kaiser and Rouge (RGE) Support Trymbi show up. Although Bivctory Five (V5) Jungler XLB still holds on to first place, and Evil Geniuses (EG) Bot Laner Danny holds onto fourth.

It turns out Pentakills might be good for KDA though, as fellow V5 teammate Photic hits 24th after securing a Pentakill.

Kha’Zix is a surprise that leaps (heh) into the Top KDA slot for Champions — although none of the 3 Junglers in the Top 25 players have touched the Champion this Summer! Zilean as well is a new face in at number 2 — while Veigar and Ashe who were at the top fall to 7th and 13th respectively.

One surprise to not see here is Kalista — the short range carry is often touted as the damage-dealing half to one of the strongest bot lane duos with Renata Glasc. While Ms. Glasc is in 19th place for KDA, Kalista is no where to be seen. If Kalista doesn’t get ahead, the pick often doesn’t do anything — so the likelyhood of a good KDA is low.

Top DMG/M (All Roles)

Danny again tops the charts, even going up in DMG/M from last week. The EG Carry now has 5 games as Ezreal with an average of 1,044 DMG/M in those games.

FunPlus Phoenix (FPX) and Team Secret (TS) Top Laners join TheShy this week — who is still unmoved from 7th place. With 3 Top Laners and 8 Bot Laners, Mid lane is the role that still dominates with 14 of the 25 top DMG/M positions.

Corki, Corki, Corki. With 122 games played, the pick is still averaging the highest DMG/M with 764.1 on average in a Major Region game. Viktor isn’t too far behind in 3rd either — both of these mid laners scale and poke — hard.

Kog’Maw creeps up to 2nd place as the Lord of Bot lane scaling picks, while Ezereal maintains a grip on 4th.

Eyes on Shyvana slowly creeping into 17th place with only 16 games played. The current Top Lane meta seems to be “Build Tanky, then go for some damage maybe” — whether it’s Iceborn Gauntlet, Sunfire Cape, or Trinity Force as your Mythic Item — longer team fights and more damage to be dealt is having these sustaining off-tanks rack up huge DMG number — like Gnar in 23rd with 222 games!

Top CS/M (All Roles)

Note: The LPL does not have data for timed CS/GOLD stats such as CS@15 — so we can not compare all Regions using these stats sadly.

TFW you knock out Chovy from the CS/M Leaderboard:

Prince takes the top spot on the CS/M leaderboard — while a bunch of fresh faces join from the PCS & VCS alike. With smaller game counts, a few quick, high CS games will usually dominate for a bit. However, the consistency of the LCK Mid and Bot lanes keep them in 5 of the top 25 spots, with the LPL taking another 3 of the 25. I highlight these two regions because of the sheer number of games more than anything — Prince and Doggo have 22 games played — whereas Slayder and Gori each have 8 games played (which is more akin to LCS or LEC).

Two late game scaling Bot Lane Champions in Jinx and Kai’Sa come in at over 10 CS/M on average when they are played. There’s a total of 13 Bot Lane and 7 Mid Lane picks in the Top 25 (while Jayce and Yone could be flexed) that showcases the two main “carry” lanes are still the ones getting the lion’s share of the farm across the globe.

VS/M (All Roles)

Instead of looking at just pure wards placed, I’m switching it up to Vision Score per Minute (VS/M) which uses the in-game calculation to judge how effective the vision being provided is.

Top 25 Players in Major Regions by VS/M — Min. 4 Games Played as of 07/18/22, 1:25AM PT

WP/M leader JeongHoon is still highly ranked when it comes to Vision Score instead — but his top spot belong to Team Liquid (TL) Support player CoreJJ instead!

Although we still only see Supports in the VS/M rankings, the teams that the players are from are not all automatically the top of the table from their respective Regions — although a lot of them still are. It goes to show that a player can provide all the vision they possibly can, even in the best spots that they can — but if the team doesn’t use it properly — they won’t win!

Top 25 Champions in Major Regions by VS/M — Min. 4 Games Played as of 07/18/22, 1:25AM PT

The top Champions in the VS/M category still have a few things in common with their WP/M counterparts:

  1. They roam well — they benefit from roaming (kills, chimes, etc) and naturally provide vision this way while out of lane early game.
  2. They use Ghost Poro or Zombie Ward well — because of point one, they utilize these Rune choices well while sweeping enemy vision and placing their own while doing so.
  3. They have big team impact — Pyke, Bard and Rakan have team-fight-defining ultimates. Using these abilities early on across the map will swing lanes — and so will leaving behind wards!

Other picks on the list still use Umbral Glaive extremely well — Pyke in the top spot and Senna in the 4th spot build it. We also see Qiyana creep in to the Top 5 as a non-Support Champion that can use it well!
